33 Weeks & a Camp Out!

Don't mind the mess in the pic above! Kory and I had just moved all our stuff back in from our summer in VA!

There I am at 33 weeks pregnant! I'm almost 34 weeks now, I've kind of been slacking on the blog. But I'm feeling great! Yeah, sleeping is a little harder and my back hurts a lot but it's not too bad.  I'm just enjoying feeling my little man move and watching my tummy roll. :)

I was just itching to go camping all summer long... so we went! Belly and all!!

We went with our friends Jake and Katie. Here they are making delicious breakfast burritos!

not the most flattering pic of me but at least Bentley looks good ;)

 Strawberry scenery

Bentley begging for bacon.. I think he ate more human food than ever

Plug your ears baby Madden, Mommy sees a squirrel!! (don't worry, I missed)

Hungry in Utah

I'm home!!!

I'm staying in my Bluffdale home with Mom and Dad until Kory comes home on the 31st.  I figure, I missed my family all summer long, why go stay at my house in Provo by myself? Plus, I admit, I'm scared! Hey, houses can get pretty creepy when you're alone at night!

So far I've been visiting all the people I've missed while I was away and of course, eating at all the places I missed even more! ;)

Places I have to eat at now that I'm home:

1. a snow cone, probably from that place I've seen all over instagram... check!!! and it was delicious!

2. Cafe Rio (they had one in VA, but they just couldn't get it right)... check!

3. J- Dawgs

4. El Ranch Grande or Los Tres Amigos, either will do! I just want a good smothered burrito!! I guess VA was too far from Mexico to have a legit Mexican restaurant.

5. Zupas... Almost check, I'm going with my friend Avi today!

6. India Palace!!!!

7. Fortune Cookie...best Chinese food/sushi ever!

8. Wow, this list is getting a little lengthy. I must be hungry haha Anyway, I've been craving my mumsy's home-made fried chicken dinner! Not just the fried chicken either, I want the works. Mashed potatoes, corn from the garden, a fresh salad, rolls, and strawberry short cake for dessert!

Yum.. Are you drooling yet? :)

one last time

As summer starts to wind down the wives will be dwindling over the next week (I have one more week) so we went out for one last hoorah! We're just missing Katie Rosell.

Yesterday us girls went to Coastal Flats for dinner before we watched the Bachelorette finale.  The restaurant had a fun atmosphere and the food was really yummy! Sammi and I shared the fish and chips...mmmm :)

After dinner we went back to Christa's for the Bachelorette...

Surprise! The girls planned a baby shower for me!! Don't I have the best friends ever? I'm sure going to  miss them.

We opened gifts, ate ice cream (don't worry I checked my blood sugar first), and watched the Bachelorette. Katie Rosell came over right after work and caught the end of the show, and gave me a blanket she knitted herself! Thanks again Katie ;)

Yesterday was the perfect ending to all of the fun girl time we've been having this summer.  I'm so grateful for my summer friends and I hope we get to do it again next year!!!

Bad & Good News

Bad or good news? Which do you want first?   Let's go with the bad so we can cheer our selves up with the good!

Well, on Monday I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes.  Not the worst thing that could happen, but still... not good! Gestational diabetes is basically diabetes that develops during pregnancy, then after you deliver it goes away.  I went to a 3 hour training on Tuesday where I learned more about gestational diabetes, learned how to check my blood sugar (which is NOT fun), and got a personalized diet plan.

So they gave me a meter and all the gear to check my blood sugar level every two hours after I eat.  It hasn't been too horrible, mostly just annoying, but I still wince every time I have to prick my finger.  What's more annoying, is that my blood sugar has been really low, not high, so I'm kind of confused. Are you sure I have diabetes, Doc? I guess I'll just keep following their plan and checking my blood sugar until my follow up appointment (in a week) and find out then.

The food plan they gave me isn't that bad either.  The nutritionist basically planned out how many grams of carbs I should be eating and when.  It hasn't been too different from how I normally eat (besides the regular candy binges I usually go on) but I think I can follow the rules for the most part. The hardest part about the whole thing is recording what I eat every time I eat and recording my sugar level.  I keep forgetting to write it down or I'm not home to write it down.  And I'm supposed to be eating every two hours, which comes up fast! I'm really hoping at my follow up appointment they tell me I'm not diabetic after all so I don't have to deal with the hassle.  But if it means a healthy baby, of course I'll deal with any hassle I have to!

Now for the fun stuff! Kory actually got a day off on Monday!!!! During the whole four years he's been selling he has never been given a day off, so this was big news for us.  Usually we try to fit everything in on Sunday since Kor doesn't get much free time, but last Sunday we just relaxed allll day long! It was so nice to just sit around and be bums together :)

Then on Monday we went to the water park with everyone in the office.  It was so much fun and actually felt like summer!

The water park was a tinsy bit ghetto and didn't have very many slides for the guys but everyone still had a blast! It was the perfect refresher everyone needed :)

A quick baby update: Baby boy is still growing strong as ever! He's kicking harder every day and I can even see my belly move where he kicks now!

We still love the name Mac but now there's competition... Madden! I love Madden because it has two syllables and is really unique! Guess it's just Baby "M" for now ;)

27 weeks

Welp! I went to the doc today and everything looks normal. Baby's heart beat was 153 and I measured 27 weeks so I'm back on schedule. Woohoo!! No ten pound babies for me :)

I took the glucose test (checking for gestational diabetes)  today too, and I'll find out the results on Monday.

I've been feeling pretty good lately too! I've been soooo tired though, but besides that, I have had way more good days than bad.

Kory and I still like the name Mac and we've even been calling the baby Mac every once in a while so I'm thinking that's the name!! It's not set in stone or anything and knowing me, I'll probably change my mind about ten more times.  So it's not official until it's on his birth certificate.

I'm enjoying being pregnant so much more these days! I can't wait to hold my new baby boy :)

a sweet hubby

I've been meaning to write ever since Saturday!! The last few days have been busy and I have been EXHAUSTED... like all the time. Haha I guess it's hard work growing a tiny person inside of you. Anyway, so on Saturday I went to the mall with the girls and baby gap was having a major sale!  I love the baby clothes from baby gap but they are so expensive, so I just kind of avoid the store so I don't get my hopes up.  I found a ton of newborn outfits that I instantly fell in love with and since everything was on sale I went on a little shopping spree for the lil man.  It was the first time I spent a lot of money on the baby in one outing so I was super excited! I showed all the girls each purchase as I imagined dressing my new baby in each piece.  We went on to other stores and pretty soon my swollen feet were throbbing so I decided to wait outside of a store on some couches.  That's when the horrible happened.

After a few minutes, I went back inside the store looking my friend.  I realized my hands were empty!! I had lost my shopping bag! My heart sank and I frantically looked everywhere for my bag.  I was pretty sure I left it on the couches, but it was no where to be found.  Christa and Kati helped me look for the bag and we talked to security, but no luck.  My bag was gone.  All of my baby boy's clothes had disappeared.  He wasn't even here yet, and I had already messed up as mom.  Kay, maybe I'm being a little dramatic.  But I'm a pregnant lady with raging hormones, I'm allowed to be dramatic right?

I could feel a lump forming in my throat but held it together until I got home.  I called Kory as soon as I walked in the door and instantly began to cry when I heard his voice. I'll never forget what my sweet husband said after he put the story together.  He didn't think I was dumb for crying over a bag of clothes and he wasn't mad about the money, he told me not to worry and that we could go re-buy everything the next day. That's definitely not the reaction I was expecting, and it caught me off guard, I felt so loved in that moment and I always want to remember the time my sweet husband's words fixed everything.  I can't wait to see him love our baby boy the same way he loves me.

I wasn't able to buy everything I bought the first time around, but I did get most of it.  But, it was just a bag of clothes.  A bag of clothes that went missing and somehow let me fall in love with my baby daddy all over again.

Feeling Better

I have been feeling a lot better the past week!! I've had small moments of nausea, but for the most part it's the best I have felt since week 8.  I think part of it is the new work out plan I've been doing.  One of the wives out here, Christa (she's married to Mitch, Kory's cousin), made the plan for me.  She's certified in personal training and specializes in prenatal work out so it's pretty legit! Before I was just doing random things for exercise and not really taking it serious but after I found out I've been gaining weight like crazy I wanted to do what I could to help. Sooo... I found a work out buddy, Katie Rosell, a got a work out plan, and started MOVING! I've been doing it for about two weeks, and so far I've been sleeping better, having less leg cramps, staying regular, and just feeling way better about myself! :)

keeping busy

Last night was a success! We took this picture just moments before the fireworks started going off.  We made it just in the knick of time too! It was a great show and I'm so happy Kory and I got to see it together!

Today has been the typical day.  I went to the gym...finally! I pulled my muscle last Tuesday so I haven't been able to work out and after learning I gained too much weight and I have a possibly giant baby, I really want to work out more.  So I worked out, then laid out at the pool and did a little swimming.  I love swimming!! The cool water feels so goooood, especially when you're all sweaty from exercise. Plus, my little man goes nuts whenever I get into the cold water!  I can feel his movements perfectly when I'm in the pool.  Love him!!

After the pool, I brought out the painting I've been working on and painted for a while.  I have to be in the mood for painting. Some days I could paint for hours and other days I'm way too impatient!! Today I was impatient but I put a little dent in it.

Between exercising and painting I've kept pretty busy today.  Now I'm off to make dinner... the chicken alfredo I've been craving!! Yum :)

Happy 4th of July!!

Happy 4th of July!!! I always miss good ole, Riverton on the 4th of July.  Riverton always has a a carnival and a great fire work show on the fourth and it's easily one of the events I miss most over summers.  I was actually visiting home over the fourth last summer so I went with my friend, Avi.  Avi and I have been friends since middle school and always spend the fourth together at the Riverton carnival.  I had so much fun eating funnel cake with her and her friendly family last year, but once the fireworks started, it just wasn't the same without my sweetie!
This year I'll be spending the fourth with my hubby in Fairfax with the rest of the office.  Kory has a long day of work today since most people have the day off from work and will be home to buy alarms. He usually has an office meeting at noon and then goes out to his area and comes home around ten, but today he went out at 9am and they plan to meet us at Fairfax High School for fireworks tonight. I'm so excited for the firework show!! I just love to cuddle up on a blankets and watch the sky light up!

The boys planned a little pre-firework show for the girls last night! I love surprises so I was thrilled when Kory texted to say he had something planned for me last night.  Most of the other couples didn't end up watching fireworks with us since their kids were in bed by the time the guys got home, but we walked down to the pond with Jake, Katie, Mitch, and his little boy Vance for the show.  We watched the tent-bought fireworks on the basketball court next to this little pond by our apartments.

My favorite part was actually the walk down to the court.  The path is covered in huge trees and bushes, and the trees were filled with twinkling lighting bugs!! Their little butts really lit up the trees making it look like stars! We don't have those in Utah, so we were all loving the magical little bugs.

(okay so I just stole this off the internet to give you an idea of what it looked like, next time I'm bringing my camera)

baby update

I actually love going to the doctor now! I get to hear my little boy's heart beat and be reminded that there's really a tiny human inside of me :)

At today's appointment I measured 3 weeks larger than expected.  I am 24 weeks pregnant, but my stomach is measuring 27 weeks. This means I'm actually 27 weeks pregnant or I have a giant baby.  I'm kind of nervous because I have a hunch it's just a big baby.  I really don't want to push out a ten pounder so I hope this all works out! I'm going back in 3 weeks for my glucose test, gestational diabetes could be responsible for the weight gain (10 pounds in a month?!!) and the giant baby, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Sunday Adventures

Another gloomy day here in Virginia! There have been a lot a gray skies since I've been here but this weekend Kory and I actually were able to go out and enjoy the sun, well less gray skies, for a while!!

The Kor and I decided to go out and explore a little on Sunday.  We went to Georgetown, which is basically like downtown Washington DC.  It was a charming little town with cobble stones paths, cute shops, and a great view of the Potomac River.  We grabbed some seafood at a restaurant called Fishers Farmers Bakers, right along the river.  Only Kory, a true pizza lover, would insist on ordering pizza at a seafood restaurant, so we shared a thin crust pizza and an order of a fried seafood combo.  The pizza was definitely a mistake and the fish was... eh. Although the food was so-so, we still had so much fun! It was soooo good to have a whole day with Kor all to myself!  These long summer days can get a tinsy bit lonely. Anyway, so I made pregnant lady mistake number 200 at the restaurant.  After walking around in the hot humidity by the time we got to the restaurant my feet were killing me, so I slipped off my shoes under the table.  When were finished eating, I tried putting my shoes on but my feet had swollen so much I could barely get my shoes back on. I managed to squeeze my red, puffy feet in my pointy-toed flats enough to walk out of the restaurant, but I ended up taking off my shoes and walking barefoot to the car, which was in underground parking two blocks away. Super gross! I think I learned my lesson! From now on, I'm sticking to flip flops.

We planned to go see World War Z that night so we went home to change shoes and stuff my purse full of candy.  It started pouring rain!! I wish I would have taken a video, cause it seriously was raining soo hard! Another one of those thunder storms I told you about. Kory ran out into the storm to bring the car up so I wouldn't have to get rained on (aww.. what a gentleman ;)). As  I watched him run out into the rain and start the car, it suddenly was coming down in buckets!!! In a split second the rain had tripled in strength and as I stood under the stairs of our apartment complex, I thought for sure Kory would come back inside. Nope!! He just sat out there waiting for me to make a run for it. I thought about opening my umbrella but I was sure it would just blow away, this was a serious storm! I just stood there contemplating if we should still go and if we did what was the best way to get from the stairs to the car, then Kory lays on the horn (not so gentlemanly).  So I take a run for it and instantly I was drenched, DRENCHED!! Like I just got out of the shower. Kory opened the car door for me and we both burst out in laughter.  I had been outside for about 3 seconds and I looked like a drowned rat.

23 weeks on a rainy day

It is pouring rain here in Fairfax today so Bentley and I are cooped up inside for now.  The thunder storms here are FREAKY!! The severe storm alerts on tv don't help calm my nerves either.  Definitely not the dry air and sunny skies I'm used to back in Utah.  As scary as the thunder storms are, though, I secretly love them! I love the sound of the rain pattering on my windows and the smell of fresh rain is always a delight. Sometimes when a storm is about to roll in, Kory and I go out to the porch and sit on our plastic chairs and watch as the rain starts to fall.  I usually get too nervous to stay out once the thunder booms but Kory will stay out and watch until he gets damp.  This is definitely something we'll have to take advantage of in Virginia since Utah's storms are little more subtle. Anyway, today is one of those rainy days and I'm going a little stir crazy stuck in this apartment all day.  Luckily, I have my  new blog to entertain me for a while. :)

Yup! That's me at 23 weeks pregnant.  I planned to take belly bump pics every week wearing that white shirt in each one, but it hasn't really happened. Oh well, I still have about 17 weeks to go so there's still time to take lots of pics!
At 23 weeks pregnant I still have the nausea... boy is it annoying!  I shouldn't complain too much because it was so much worse during my first trimester and now I can actually eat normally and do pretty much whatever... besides brush my teeth. Gross, I know.  But I still do brush them, just very, very carefully. I've been taking Zofran in the AM and vitamin B and Unisom in the PM to keep the nausea at bay and it seems to take off the edge.  At first I felt really guilty for taking medicine while I was pregnant but then I soon realized the Zofran made it so I could keep my food down and since I felt better I was in a much better mood.  I decided that nutrients for myself and the baby and a happy mama were both really important so I kept on with the Zofran.  But I  still really hope I can quit taking it soon.
As far as cravings go, I'm kinda boring.  There hasn't been one food that I just HAD to have or anything like that.  I mean, I like some foods more than before, like Wendy's chicken nuggets (yummmm...), hamburgers, spaghetti, and lately I can't enough cherries.  But I'm not going to kill anybody for them. I'll just take them whenever I can and be happy!
Let's see, what else.... oh baby names! So far Kory and I like these names: Mac, Nixon, Noah, and CJ.   CJ would be after Kory's brother that passed away, Collin. But we're not set on one name yet.  I want to meet the little man before I name him.  What if I decide to call him Noah and he comes out looking like a Mac? I want to keep my options open, ya know? :)
Between the fresh stretch marks I just discovered and the nightly leg cramps I've been having, pregnancy hasn't been as fun as I thought it would be.  But when I feel that lil peanut dancing away inside of me I can't help but feel thrilled and blessed to start a new family.

first post ever

I'm typing my very first post all the way from Fairfax, Virginia!  We are a long way from home this summer but my mom came to visit me once already and I have been hanging out with the other wives A LOT more than past summers so time has gone by pretty fast.  Of course I can't wait to get back to our brand new home we had just nestled into before leaving, but I'm making the best of my time here in Fairfax.  I have already made the trip to DC twice, spent a weekend in New York with my mom, read a few books, tried some new recipes, and spent many hours down at the pool. Oh the sweet life of a summer sales wife...

making the three day drive to Virginia

first trip to DC... the White House was surprisingly smaller than it looks on tv

oh, and President Obama wasn't even home

Times Square! Even cooler than I thought. New York City is really old too, like really old!

mom in China Town (this is where we bought ALL of our souvenirs)

we had to get a slice of cake from the Cake Boss! a little dry but very pretty :)

second trip to DC, this time with mom. we could not find our tour bus for the life of us and I got really grumpy (sorry mom), we eventually found it and made our through DC.  we rode the subway home at 5pm...not smart. we were packed in there like sardines and we had to stand up the whole way home. by the time we got to the apartment, my pregnant ankles were so swollen I thought they were broken. luckily I had my mommy here to put my feet up and ice them for me. love you mom!
