23 weeks on a rainy day

It is pouring rain here in Fairfax today so Bentley and I are cooped up inside for now.  The thunder storms here are FREAKY!! The severe storm alerts on tv don't help calm my nerves either.  Definitely not the dry air and sunny skies I'm used to back in Utah.  As scary as the thunder storms are, though, I secretly love them! I love the sound of the rain pattering on my windows and the smell of fresh rain is always a delight. Sometimes when a storm is about to roll in, Kory and I go out to the porch and sit on our plastic chairs and watch as the rain starts to fall.  I usually get too nervous to stay out once the thunder booms but Kory will stay out and watch until he gets damp.  This is definitely something we'll have to take advantage of in Virginia since Utah's storms are little more subtle. Anyway, today is one of those rainy days and I'm going a little stir crazy stuck in this apartment all day.  Luckily, I have my  new blog to entertain me for a while. :)

Yup! That's me at 23 weeks pregnant.  I planned to take belly bump pics every week wearing that white shirt in each one, but it hasn't really happened. Oh well, I still have about 17 weeks to go so there's still time to take lots of pics!
At 23 weeks pregnant I still have the nausea... boy is it annoying!  I shouldn't complain too much because it was so much worse during my first trimester and now I can actually eat normally and do pretty much whatever... besides brush my teeth. Gross, I know.  But I still do brush them, just very, very carefully. I've been taking Zofran in the AM and vitamin B and Unisom in the PM to keep the nausea at bay and it seems to take off the edge.  At first I felt really guilty for taking medicine while I was pregnant but then I soon realized the Zofran made it so I could keep my food down and since I felt better I was in a much better mood.  I decided that nutrients for myself and the baby and a happy mama were both really important so I kept on with the Zofran.  But I  still really hope I can quit taking it soon.
As far as cravings go, I'm kinda boring.  There hasn't been one food that I just HAD to have or anything like that.  I mean, I like some foods more than before, like Wendy's chicken nuggets (yummmm...), hamburgers, spaghetti, and lately I can't enough cherries.  But I'm not going to kill anybody for them. I'll just take them whenever I can and be happy!
Let's see, what else.... oh baby names! So far Kory and I like these names: Mac, Nixon, Noah, and CJ.   CJ would be after Kory's brother that passed away, Collin. But we're not set on one name yet.  I want to meet the little man before I name him.  What if I decide to call him Noah and he comes out looking like a Mac? I want to keep my options open, ya know? :)
Between the fresh stretch marks I just discovered and the nightly leg cramps I've been having, pregnancy hasn't been as fun as I thought it would be.  But when I feel that lil peanut dancing away inside of me I can't help but feel thrilled and blessed to start a new family.

first post ever

I'm typing my very first post all the way from Fairfax, Virginia!  We are a long way from home this summer but my mom came to visit me once already and I have been hanging out with the other wives A LOT more than past summers so time has gone by pretty fast.  Of course I can't wait to get back to our brand new home we had just nestled into before leaving, but I'm making the best of my time here in Fairfax.  I have already made the trip to DC twice, spent a weekend in New York with my mom, read a few books, tried some new recipes, and spent many hours down at the pool. Oh the sweet life of a summer sales wife...

making the three day drive to Virginia

first trip to DC... the White House was surprisingly smaller than it looks on tv

oh, and President Obama wasn't even home

Times Square! Even cooler than I thought. New York City is really old too, like really old!

mom in China Town (this is where we bought ALL of our souvenirs)

we had to get a slice of cake from the Cake Boss! a little dry but very pretty :)

second trip to DC, this time with mom. we could not find our tour bus for the life of us and I got really grumpy (sorry mom), we eventually found it and made our through DC.  we rode the subway home at 5pm...not smart. we were packed in there like sardines and we had to stand up the whole way home. by the time we got to the apartment, my pregnant ankles were so swollen I thought they were broken. luckily I had my mommy here to put my feet up and ice them for me. love you mom!
